Practicing Immensity

  • How we connect with AI is profound – awe, fear, confusion, uncertainty, unlimited possibility.
  • How we connect with each other is profound – what it means to be human is being redefined.
  • How we connect with the world is profound – geopolitics now affect us locally.
  • How we connect with time is also profound – the speed of innovation shortens planning horizons into months while also asking us to consider shaping the next 25 years.
  • And how we connect with ourselves is profound – less of a choice and more of a knock on our inner door asking us, “what world do you want to create?”

The immensity of power in our hands, bodies, and minds is almost unfathomable.

Though profundity could normalize eventually, not knowing when suggests we take time to deeply understand how we operate when encountering what feels beyond our understanding.

A worthy paradox that just by considering and reflecting on it creates familiarity.

The paradox won’t go away, but we’ll get the reps practicing being with it again and again. It’s not a time to hide, but to purposefully expose ourselves to the friction we feel we can’t handle.

Because then perhaps we discover we are just as immense as this moment. Or more simply “profound uncertainty” becomes a design constraint we work with, not around.

What’s one decision you’re making where acknowledging the immensity actually changes your approach?
